L for …

Another bonus this week. We’re dealing not only with L but also with Ll, (pronounced ‘hthl’ (approximately!) in Welsh and ‘ee’ in Spanish), which some sources regard as a separate letter of the alphabet.

Lake:

Llyn’ in Welsh; this is Llyn Padarn, near Llanberis.

 Llama:

Again, with two Ls. This is how they keep the grass short at Machu Picchu. Llamas live in the Andes; do not confuse with Lamas, who live in the Himalayas!
