Next Trip

After a lot of discussion, and a little argument, we have finally decided on ‘Big Trip 20’ and have made the booking. We’re going to … Borneo.

Of course, we’ve done some research, and will probably do a lot more. We’ve already established they have UK-type electrical sockets, and the water in the towns is safe. But, we were rather surprised to learn … Borneo isn’t a country.

Correctly, the name is applied to an island, which consists of the Sultanate of Brunei, the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak and the Indonesian province of Kalimantan. However, our tour will be confined to Sabah … where the orang-utan sanctuary is, and where it’s said (although they don’t promise anything) there is a small possibility we may see one in the wild.

If we don’t, there’s more wildlife to be seen, and I’m looking forward to seeing, and photographing a rafflesia, or ‘Corpse Flower’, the biggest flowering plant in the world. But, I’m advised not to get too close, because it stinks; hence the more common name.

No photos yet, though; I’m sure I have a picture of an orang-utan somewhere, but I’m blessed if I can find it!

    • We watched a documentary on the wildlife of Borneo on Nat Geo Wild last night. Looking forward to it even more. (not keen on the flying snakes, though! 😀 )
