Mount Aksla/Ålesund Slide Show

19th March 2013: Ålesund

Ålesund is overlooked by Mount Aksla. It’s a ‘mount’ in name only, though, and is really only a rather slight hill. You can easily get a coach up here, and that’s what they did. There’s a restaurant, which was closed, but access was still permitted to their balcony, from which there’s an excellent view of the town.

Snow-covered hills, blue water, a pleasant town laid out before you and the Hurtigruten ferry making its placid way out of the harbour. What more could you want for good photographs?

Above the car park, there’s a statue of Kristopher Randers. (Who’s he? Thank you, Google!) He was a local poet, who also wrote an early guidebook to the Ålesund/Sunnmøre area.

A bit like our own William Wordsworth, maybe?
