Back to Alice … in the Rain.

Alice 1

Alice Springs 23rd/24th April 2012.

Just as we completed the King’s Canyon Rim Walk, and met the ladies who had been doing the far less strenuous walk along the floor of the canyon, I felt a splash on my neck. I hoped it was bird-poop, but no such luck. It was rain.

It rained most of the way back to Alice Springs where, after checking back into the Chiffley, we had dinner at the Overlander’s Steak House. There were kangaroo steaks on offer, but the excellent T-bones were too tempting. ‘Eating Skippy’ was saved for another occasion.

I got awakened at 4.30 a.m. by a noisy rattle, and was going to complain about the noisy air conditioning when I checked out. But, it wasn’t the air conditioning; it was rain! It put down enough to form a few puddles in the sandy bed of the normally dry Todd River, but not enough to turn it into a fully-fledged river.

I wished we could return to Uluru … I’d love to see the classic view with water running off it. Alas, we had a bus to catch, so we had to content ourselves with buying a postcard.
