Even without the history … natural or otherwise … it’s still well worth taking the Kinsale Harbour Cruise for the scenic quality alone, whatever the weather. A picture, they say, is worth a thousand words and maybe a video is worth a few pictures, so here goes …

There’s two forts; one on each side of the harbour mouth. The larger one, on the eastern side, is Charles Fort, built in the late 17th Century on the site of an earlier fortification, and occupied for military purposes until fairly recently … I’ll be discussing it in greater depth later.
On the western bank is the ruined James Fort, built slightly earlier.
