Madeira Video

Funchal; 13th December 2009.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll probably say it again. Visiting somewhere on a cruise is nothing like spending a longer time there. But, that’s not to run the practice down. What it does is give you a quick foretaste of the place, so you can make a longer visit later and have some idea what to expect.

(It works the other way, too … on a couple of occasions, we’ve visited a few ‘armpit of the universe’ destinations, and concluded they’re best avoided without finding out the hard way)

But, Madeira definitely falls into the first category, and here’s video of our ‘whistle stop’ tour of the island. And, next time I visit, there’ll definitely be footage of the toboggan run from the point of view of a rider!

  1. I enjoy all of your videos very much. I had no idea the town had a cable car. Seems like a nice spot.

    • The cable car is, I think, fairly recent. My friend Margaret says it wasn’t there last time she visited, but I can’t remember when she said that was.

But, I’m definitelygoing to try the toboggan next time!
